I. Eligibility

For High School Credit

If you are an Ann Arbor public school student who plans to take the course for high school credit, you don’t need to apply to the university. You enroll in the class via the Community Resource program. Information on the Community Resource program is available on the Ann Arbor Public Schools website. This program is administered by Community High School in Ann Arbor and is open to all students in the Ann Arbor public school system. If you are not an Ann Arbor public school student, check with your high school counselor.

For College Credit

If you plan to enroll for college credit, you must first meet the eligibility for dual enrollment review guidelines. To do this, you need to have:

  • Exhausted all available courses in an academic discipline
  • Received scores of 4 or 5 on the Advanced Placement Examinations in the academic subject area
  • Maintained a similar academic profile to students who enroll in the LSA Honors program (median ranges for new SAT (1440-1540), critical reading and math section sub scores (excludes the writing section), ACT (32-34), and GPA (3.8 - 4.0 on a 4.0 scale)


II. The Application Process

Once you’ve met the guidelines, the next step is to complete a Dual Enrollment Application (there is no application fee required).

Application Materials

The following documents must be submitted with the dual enrollment application:

  • Completion of Part II of the dual enrollment application by a high school counselor or principal stating that you have exhausted all available courses in the academic discipline and supporting your desire to enroll at U-M
  • Parent/guardian completion and signature (Question #23) granting permission for the student to leave the high school campus to attend classes at U-M
  • An official high school transcript showing grades through the semester prior to term of requested enrollment
  • SAT and/or ACT (sent directly from the testing agency)
  • A copy of AP test score results

III. Deadlines

Dual enrollment application should be submitted at least one month prior to the first day of class for the desired term of enrollment.

  • Winter 2025 term classes begin – Wednesday, Jan. 8
  • Fall 2025 term classes begin – Monday, Aug. 25
  • Winter 2026 term classes begin – Wednesday, Jan. 7

IV. Registration

Dual enrollment students cannot register until the first day of classes. They cannot pre-register. That means that, if they have been accepted, they may not get into the class they want at the time they want. This is a big parent concern because they want to schedule their child’s other classes around attendance at U-M; however, that is not possible. They can look at the time schedule on the website to get an idea but, again, there are no guarantees. The university’s academic calendar is also available online.
