Learn more about this Michigan Learning Community.
The University of Michigan offers a host of different Michigan Learning Communities (MLCs). While each MLC has its own personality, their overall purpose is the same: to help incoming students connect with each other and find a community!
The LSA Residential College (RC) is one of these MLCs! The RC is a vibrant program where students can find lifelong friends, immerse themselves in language learning and interdisciplinary classes, and get involved in community programs. But we're not done! Here are 10 reasons why you should consider joining the RC:
- We're a small, tight-knit community. Each year, we bring in a cap of 250 students from around the country and the world!
- All academic interests are welcome! RC students are interested in a wide array of subjects, from the humanities to the natural sciences. No matter what your interests are, you'll be in good company!
- Diversity, equity, and inclusion is a cornerstone of everything we do. We believe in fostering perspectives in social justice and community through our classes, extracurriculars, and events.
- The RC offers an engaging and unique selection of courses to pick from. RC classes are niche, hands-on, and interdisciplinary. Here are some examples of classes we're offering in fall 2024!
- You'll form close relationships with classmates and faculty. RC classes are collaborative, discussion-based, and include about nine to 20 students.
- Hone in on your language skills. We offer five languages in an intensive, semi-immersive environment, with lots of opportunities for growth and support.
- Live in a fun and comfortable space! The RC is housed in East Quad, a residence hall on Central Campus. With its own dining hall, art gallery, theater, music practice rooms, and game room, there's always something to do!
- Excel academically! Many RC students take on minors, double major, complete dual-degrees with other colleges at U-M, write honors theses, and much more!
- No application essay is required to join the RC. We believe students admitted to LSA have already proven themselves to be driven, curious, and upstanding people!
- Don't forget, you're still an LSA student! You'll have the freedom to enjoy the benefits of the RC while still taking advantage of all the classes, programs, and extracurriculars U-M has to offer.
